Blessed are the pavements

It seems that I have become a little obsessed with walking surfaces since starting this Camino. If you had asked me what I thought would occupy my mind before starting this pilgrimage I am quite sure walking surfaces would not have made the list.

But here we are, Day 4 of the Camino and today I offer you a blessing for pavements…

Blessed are the pavements.

Blessed are the sidewalks.

Solid, smooth concrete, tarmac or bricks.

You free my soles from…

Bumpy cobblestones

So pretty to look at

So awkward to walk on

You free me from worry about

Wavering boardwalks with bouncy landings.

You provide sturdiness, security and safety.

Blessed are the pavements and sidewalks.

I’m quite sure I don’t have a future in writing blessings, but this is what landed on my heart today. I think it speaks to this experience of the Camino being very much about my physical body so far. There’s more I could share about this, but I’m not sure I am ready yet.

My body is tired at the end of each day, but thus far has been ready to walk again by the morning. This feels like a miracle.

I am hoping (praying) that my focus can shift to my heart and my soul as the journey continues. Or that I would find some clearer connection between what my body is experiencing and what my soul is searching for.

In what ways does your experience of your body connect with or feed your soul?
